Prof. Sunil Sondhi is a distinguished scholar in the field of intercultural communication, conflict resolution, international relations, education, global policy and governance.

Most recently, Dr. Sondhi served as Project Director, Culture and Communication Project at Indira Gandhi National Center of Arts. He is currently the Tagore National Fellow  at the center. He has previously served as Principal at Maharaja Agrasen College, University of Delhi, from 2007-2019.

Educational Background

After completing doctoral research from the University of Delhi he did post-doctoral research at the George Washington University and the University of Toronto. During his research and teaching career spanning four decades, Sunil Sondhi has received many international research awards, which include: J. Field Work

Sunil Sondhi has extensive experience of working with civil society organizations throughout the world and raising funds for education and development activities. He has been active in organizing leadership development programs for the youth and involving them in social work in rural areas of the world. Through these activities he has strived to promote social harmony and tolerance among diverse communities.



Most recently, Dr. Sondhi served as Project Director, Culture and Communication Project, Indira Gandhi National Center of Arts (IGNCA). He is currently the Tagore National Fellow  at the center. He has previously served as Principal of Maharaja Agrasen College, University of Delhi, from 2007-2019. His current engagements at IGNCA has him working on high value projects on culture and communication in India funded by the Ministry of Culture. He was earlier awarded Canada Asia Pacific Award for an applied research project on "Engaging Communities in Environmental Management". This involved study and participation of civil society organizations in managing the environment. This study covers metropolitan areas of India and Canada and remote regions in northeast India and northwest Canada. He also completed a project on "Governance and Development in South Asia" which included a study of the role of civil society organizations in improving the quality of governance in the countries of South Asian region.

Sunil Sondhi is an expert mountaineer and has trekked and climbed extensively in the Himalayas. Dr. Sondhi has published widely in scholarly journals on international relations and organization. He has over one hundred research papers to his credit. His most recent paper was on “Communication in the Global Family.” An earlier paper on "Terrorism and Governance in Kashmir" was published in The Journal of Conflict Studies (New Brunswick). He has presented several research papers at international conferences held in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Sweden, Austria, and New Zealand. Sunil Sondhi has published seven books of which the most recent is on "International Relations: A Framework for Analysis". This book focuses on the evolution of global civil society and its implication for theory and practice of international relations.
